Sulu’s Exclusion From Bangsamoro

On September 9 2024, the Supreme Court ruled on the severance of the Province of Sulu from the autonomous region, following the 2019 plebiscite, in which 54% of Sulu voters cast negative votes, resulting in its non-inclusion in the BARMM.

Sulu’s exclusion from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is more than a political issue; it’s a loss of cultural and historical connection. By being left out, Sulu faces uncertainty in education, representation, and its rich heritage. Students may lose access to scholarships, while future generations risk losing touch with their history. To prevent this, raising awareness and urging leaders to reconsider the decision is vital. Sulu’s heritage and identity are worth preserving for future generations.
